Social Mills Muslims President Mills stresses sacrifice for Better Ghana

Accra, Nov. 16, GNA – President John Evans Atta Mills on

Tuesday expressed THE Government’s appreciation to Muslims for

their sacrifice to the national development process. Addressing a congregation of Muslim faithful at the

Independence Square in Accra to mark Eid-ul-Adha, President Mills

asked: “What sacrifices can we make in order to help build a Better

Ghana?” He said the celebration was meant for sacrifice and appealed to

Ghanaians to consider what sacrifices they could make in the

nation’s efforts to build a Better Ghana. President Mills said the celebration was a process of self denial,

sacrifice and spiritual cleansing, so that the faithful would be in a

position to enjoy the bounteous blessings of Allah. He called for prayers for Muslims that were on the Hajj in

Mecca. President Mills thanked the leadership for the high sense of

tolerance and intervention to ease the problems of this year’s Hajj

and gave the assurance that the “mistakes” that were committed

would not happen again. Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharabutu, National Chief Imam, who

said prayers for peace and national progress, also asked Muslims to

be mindful of their constitutional role, rights and responsibilities. “We should also try to appreciate and acknowledge the

government’s efforts of creating a congenial atmosphere for good

governance. “We should also be aware of the government’s efforts at

addressing the imbalance in the recognition of the status of Muslim

communities.” The National Chief Imam appealed Muslims to explore ways, in

the spirit of sacrifice, to improve the lives of people in their

communities. He called on Muslims to support and be engaged in the war

against malaria. 16 Nov. 10
