Nsawam inmate bludgeoned into coma

An inmate of the Nsawam Medium Security Prisons, Emmanuel Oduro, is reportedly in coma after being assaulted by a prison officer.

The victim is said to have used a mobile phone for calls, a violation of the prison’s regulations, and was asked to hand over the phone.

Another inmate who was an eyewitness to the incident, which occurred on Tuesday, January 18, told Class News on condition of anonymity that “after giving the phone to the officer, the victim was slapped and he collapsed”.

According to him, the victim is asthmatic and fell unconscious after the beatings. He was then admitted at the Nsawam Hospital for treatment.

The eyewitness is, therefore, appealing to the family of the victim to come to his aid as he received medical attention at the hospital.

The witness also pointed out that per information circulating at the prisons, the officer who assaulted the prisoner has mental issues and the recent incident is not the first time the said officer has assaulted an inmate of the prison.
