The National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) has educated children on road safety measures to help reduce the number of child casualties recorded in the country.
Mr Charles Oduro Kwarteng, the Assistant Planning Officer, in a presentation to pupils of Marbs school in Tema, said about two children died daily on the road and 750 children became seriously injured every year.
He took the children through safer ways of crossing the road such as walking briskly, using foot bridges, zebra crossings and the lollipop stands.
“Make sure you have a clear view of the road and watch left, right, and left again before you cross the road; and also wear bright colours in order to be noticed by drivers when using the road at night,” he said.
He advised children to remind their parents not to drink and drive, speed, overtake unnecessarily and to always put on their seat belts when driving.
Mr Kwarteng also advised them to desist from using mobile phones when driving and to tell their parents to use child-restraint seats for children under age five.
At the end of the presentation, the children recited a pledge to abide by the road safety measures they had learnt. They also received learning materials from the NRSC to help in their studies.
