The Koko party organised by the Loyal Ladies of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ayawaso East constituency was not meant to buy votes from the electorates, Mr Sammi Awuku, National Youth Organiser of the NPP, has said.
The Loyal Ladies organised the event with support from the NPP’s parliamentary nominee of the constituency, Peter Mireku, at a time that both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the NPP have been accused of vote buying by the Centre for Democratic Development.
Speaking to the media after the Koko party, Mr Awuku said: “We are not telling them to take this and vote for us, our parliamentary candidate is embarking on this outreach to reach out to the less-privileged in the constituency, and as youth, we feel that it is important to give him that [support].”
For his part, Mr Mireku said since the NDC took over the reins of governance, the party had not instituted plans of developing the constituency; therefore, the government must be changed. “You cannot point to one single thing they have done, so this is the time they should be changed,” he said.
