Sekondi, August 6, GNA – The New Patriotic Party’s strategy to collaborate with some political opponents in the last elections, particularly in the Western Region has proved to be mutually beneficial to the parties involved and the people of the Region as a whole. Mr Peter Mac-Manu, Western Regional Chairman of the party said if other regional branches of the party had adopted this strategy and worked up a deal with other smaller parties, the NPP would have won landslides in all the regions. “In spite of the party’s success in the Region, what we must not forget is that, we are an organisation with failures and achievements, which we must review constantly in order to stay on course”. Mr Mac-Manu was opening an NPP emergency Regional Executive meeting at Sekondi on Saturday to review the party’s activities in the Region. Representatives from all the 21 constituencies including some national officers attended the meeting. The NPP Regional Chairman said the restructuring of party structures over the period accounted for its successes, saying, “they are the bedrock of the NPP and will be recognised always as such”. Mr Mac-Manu noted with satisfaction that democracy had taken roots in the country and was gradually “maturing”, adding that, “the NPP will never fail the people”. Mr Joseph Boahen Aidoo, the Regional Minister said the Whistle Blower Act and the People’s Representative Amendment Bill would enhance transparency and embolden citizens to make public any acts of corruption among politicians and public and civil servants. He said the Peoples Representative Amendment Bill would seek to reverse “some kind of discrimination” during voting against some Ghanaians living abroad. In spite of the good spirit that these bills have, Mr. Aidoo said the National Democratic Congress the main opposition party, “is now on the offensive, trying to impress on the people to reject the bills”.
