NPP’s attempt to appease Ga indigenes too late – Allotey Jacobs

Central Regional Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has added his voice to the ongoing debate concerning some decisions adopted by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

One of the decisions adopted after a meeting held by NEC on March 23, 2015 was that only female candidates should contest incumbent female Parliamentarians in the party’s upcoming primaries.

Another decision they took was that the 12 coastal constituencies in the Greater Accra Region should be contested by only Ga indigenes except in exceptional circumstances.

These decisions have created a lot of heat in the party as majority of its members do not agree with the decision.

Speaking to the issue during a panel discussion on PEACE FM morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Bernard Allotey Jacobs said the decision concerning the Greater Accra Region is to appease the ‘Ga’s’ after various ‘unsavoury’ comments the party had made concerning them.

“If the foundation of a building is not strong, it will have cracks and collapse. When you start politics on the wrong footing, you are in big trouble….this is to appease the Gas but it is too late for them….it is not about affirmative action…people are protecting their interest. These are conspiracies that have backfired and boomeranging in their faces,” he said.
