NPP’s appeal to EU, ECOWAS will have no impact on EC – Ephson

Pollster Ben Ephson has cast doubts on the impact of the New Patriotic Party’s petition to ECOWAS and EU leaders to support the party’s campaign for a new voters’ register.

The NPP has petitioned Nigerian President Muhamadu Buhari, Togolese President Faure Gnasinngbe and German leader Angela Merkel to convince the EC to use a new voters’ register for the 2016 elections.

It comes ahead of the September 22 deadline given by the EC for the various parties to state their positions on the raging controversy.

Former NPP General Secretary Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie has justified the move.

According to Sir John, as Owusu Afriyie is popularly known, anything that happens in Ghana affects ECOWAS and the EU so petitioning them is the right thing to do.

But Ben Ephson says the NPP is at liberty to appeal to the foreign countries but the EC cannot be impressed upon to take a decision.

“They [NPP] have liberty to appeal but at the end of the day, the various external countries and organisations would come back to the EC if they want to…so if the appeal would make them feel good; so be it”.

“A new [voters’] register is not key to a successful 2016,” Ephson told Starr News.
