NPP youth in C/R declare support for Kyerematen

Cape Coast, Aug. 07, GNA – The Youth Wing of New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Central Region on Tuesday declared its support for Mr Alan Kyerematen, one of the aspiring presidential candidates of the Party. They said Mr Kyerematen, Former Minister of Trade and Industry, Private Sector Development and PSI, was the right candidate to lead the Party and the nation.

“He has distinguished himself in the performance of his duties and through his leadership, the ministry generated more foreign exchange for the country from non-traditional exports like garments, salt and oil-palm”.

Mr Duker George Mireku, Assistant Secretary of the Youth Wing in Mfantsiman West Constituency and Spokesperson for the group announced at a press conference in Cape Coast.

He noted that through Mr Kyerematen’s efforts, Ghana’s exports increased from below 1.6 billion dollars in 2002 to 3.4 billion in 2006 and non-traditional exports, increased from 400 million dollars to 897 million dollars within the period.

Mr Mireku said Mr Kyerematen deserved to lead the Party and succeed President John Agyekum Kufuor because he was instrumental in the creation of jobs through the PSI, re-activation of the Pwalugu Tomato Factory and Juapong textiles, now Volta Star Company. He said, politically, the presidential aspirant, was a founding member of the Party, National Executive and Finance Committee since 1992.

Mr Mireku pointed out that since the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) had exonerated Mr Kyerematen of all allegations of impropriety made against him, “the youth in Central Region believe he is the most marketable of all the aspirants.”
