NPP women donate blood to flood victims

The women’s wing of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by Women’s Organiser Otiko Afisa Djaba has launched a nationwide blood donation campaign for victims of last Wednesday’s flood-cum-fire disaster in Accra.

Twenty members of the party were at the 37 Military Hospital to donate blood to help victims.

The torrential rains last Wednesday and an explosion at a Goil Filling Station left at least 150 lives lost and many others with various degrees of injury.

The Minister of Health, Dr Alex Segbefia, after touring some hospitals where surviving victims are receiving treatment, entreated members of the public to voluntarily donate blood at the health facilities to help the victims.

Speaking to TV3 on Tuesday, June 9, Ms Djaba said a message has been sent to members across the country to replicate the gesture at regional hospitals.

“We have asked our various members from the different constituencies to come here and support with the blood donation and this is the launch of it.”

According to her, the disaster goes beyond political parties and so all hands should be on deck to help the victims.
