Sammy Awuku, a contender for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Youth Organizer position, has predicted that the NPP will not go to court to contest the results of the 2016 elections.
The largest opposition political party, NPP, proceeded to the Supreme Court to contest the results of the elections after the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) were declared winners by the Electoral Commission.
After about eight months of legal tussle, the petitioners were eventually declared losers in the case by the Supreme Court, pronouncing President Mahama as the legally-elected president.
Sammy Awuku said the NPP would be declared winners of the 2016 presidential, therefore, the NPP would not head to the Supreme Court again in search for justice.
Speaking at the ‘People’s Forum’ at Amakom which was attended by NPP members in Kumasi, he said the NPP “has to prepare physically and spiritually in order to snatch a first round victory in 2016.”
Sammy Awuku said the President Mahama-led administration had failed to perform, thereby, heightening the financial challenges facing the ordinary Ghanaian. He said light and water bills had been increased significantly in President Mahama’s first year in political office, stressing that there was no hope that the NDC government could solve the problems facing the people.
According to him, corruption had been the order of the day in the NDC administration under President Mahama.
Despite the NDC government’s appalling performance, he cautioned that the NPP would not win the 2016 elections on a silver platter, stating, “The NPP needs proper planning and committed leaders to ensure victory.”
Sammy Awuku said when elected as the Youth Organizer of the NPP, he would work to ensure that the youth in the country would be attracted to the NPP to boost the party’s chances of electoral victory in 2016.
He said his motive of contesting for the top position “is to work hard to help the NPP win the 2016 elections” noting that “nothing shall stop the NPP from victory 2016.”
