NPP will participate in budget debate – Dr Akoto Osei

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has indicated that it will actively participate in the debate of budget when presented to Parliament.

A former Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei, on Eyewitness News on Wednesday mentioned that the NPP has an obligation to hold the ruling government accountable.

“Serious constitutional breached have occurred and we have an obligation to hold the government accountable,” he said.

The NPP Legislators on Wednesday during the presentation of their version state of the nation’s address accused government of increasing Ghana’s debt from GHC9.5 billion to GHC33.5 billion.

They therefore called on government to explain to Ghanaians what the money was used for because according to them, the borrowed funds meant for developmental projects were rather used in the payment of judgment debt.

Dr. Akoto Osei further mentioned that government must explain to Ghanaians why “they breached the Appropriation Act…because they have violated the law and the Minister would have to come and explain why they violated the law and we have to think about what sanctions to impose.”
