NPP will congratulate Mahama if… – Nana Akomea

Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akomea says if the verdict on the election petition endorses the December 9 declaration by the Electoral Commission (EC) as regards results of the 2012 Presidential Elections, the NPP and its 2012 candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will go to the Flagstaff House to congratulate President John Dramani Mahama.

“And if the Court says Nana Addo won, we expect John Dramani Mahama to come to Nana and congratulate him,” he said on Sunday, August 18, 2013 during the finals of TV3’s music reality show Mentor.

The final was dedicated to peace ahead of the delivery of judgement on the election petition. It was dubbed: “The Peace Agenda”.

A National Women’s Organizer of the pro-National Democratic Congress (NDC) group, Zongo for Mahama, Akosua Panyin, called on all to help sustain the peace currently being enjoyed in the country.

Young Rosemary Naa Chinery put up a stage performance to also drum home the message of peace, calling on Ghanaians to accept the verdict of the petition irrespective of party affiliation.

Nana Akomea, who headed the Communication Team of the 2012 Campaign of the NPP, noted that: “We expect justice and we expect peace.”

He promised that if the Court’s ruling takes parties to a rerun of the 2012 Presidential Elections, the NPP will run a “decent and competitive campaign”.

The petition was filed by Nana Addo, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, his running mate, and Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey on December 28, 2012.

The three are seeking an annulment of over two million votes they claim are invalid as per the rules set by the Commission.

The Supreme Court has set Thursday, August 29, 2013 to rule on the case.
