Ghana’s largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has argued that the ruling party, New Patriotic Party (NPP), is doing all it can to ensure that fewer Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates get the required pass marks.
The NDC is of the view that the NPP is conniving with the relevant individuals and institutions to ensure that a manageable number of students sail through the exams.
The deputy Communications Director of the NDC, Kweku Boahen stated that the government is working closely with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to ensure that the pass mark for the BECE is reduced from aggregate 42 to aggregate 30.
This, he argued, is because the government wants a manageable number to take through the “Free SHS” programme.
He went ahead to wonder what the fate of those whose aggregates exceed 30. He added that the NPP has already mismanaged the economy, after just eight months in office, and that Ghanaians would definitely ensure the return of the NDC in 2020.
