Wa, Feb. 19, GNA- The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it would mount a vigorous campaign to win back the Upper West Region to the Danquah/Busia tradition, Mr Dan Botwe, General Secretary of the party said at Wa on Thursday.
The campaign, code named “operation restore our heritage” would be the best way of honouring the memory of the late S.D. Dombo, B.K. Adama and Jatoe Kaleo and other founding fathers of the tradition in the North.
He said these people worked under difficult conditions in the past to keep the tradition alive, Mr Botwe stated. He was opening a three-day capacity building workshop for 40 activists of the party in Wa.
The participants were taken through management, strategic planning and communication skills and they were expected to train polling station staff.
Mr Botwe assured party activists in the region that the National Secretariat would make adequate resources available to them to enable them to achieve victory for the party.
The General Secretary advised the party executives in the region to open up and carry themselves about in a manner that would attract more people to the party.
He told them to work hard to erase the negative propaganda that the NPP is an Ashanti or Akan party, from the minds of the people in the region.
“This is not the tradition that discriminates against the Upper West because in 1969, the key portfolios of Defence and Interior were held by citizens of the area in the persons of the late B.K. Adama and S.D. Dombo respectively.
Mr Sahanun Mogtari, Upper West Regional Minister said through its activities, the party was on the right course towards victory. He said within three years, the NPP government has provided enough infrastructure and social services.
Mr Mogtari noted that the fight for parliamentary seats in the region was an indication that the party was growing in the region. Alhaji Abudulai Issahaque, Regional Chairman of the party called for unity and hard work to enable them to achieve their objective of capturing more seats this year.
