NPP victimising me for supporting Mahama – Gyataba

The 2016 presidential aspirant of the United Front Party (UFP), Nana Agyenim Boateng, has accused the New Patriotic Party government of picking on him following his endorsement of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and then-President John Mahama in last year’s elections.

Mr Boateng has sued the Ghana Police Service and the Invincible Forces, a private security wing of the governing NPP, at a Kumasi High Court for the seizure of his two cars.

The Invincible Forces are alleged to have, with some police officers, stormed Gyataba’s Barekese residence in the Ashanti Region while he was away and towed away two pickups with registration numbers GM 1842-16 and GM 1413-16.

The group had insisted the cars belonged to the state, a claim the politician denies, saying he has the relevant documents proving ownership.

Speaking on Accra News March 9, Mr Boateng confirmed filing the suit, saying the conduct of the Ghana Police Service in the matter had rendered it a “service of disgrace” contrary to its motto of Service with Integrity.

He explained that he was at a loss as to why the Suame police would send heavily armed cops together with party security to seize his vehicles while he was away when they could have contacted him to bring the cars to the police station for the checks to be done, but said he would wait for his day in court.

“…I’m waiting for the case to be called so that the [police] explain why they came for the car, because if under Nana Akufo-Addo’s Ghana you could be at residence and NPP supporters and policemen could pull a gun on you to seize your property, then Ghanaians are not safe under Akufo-Addo. This is unprecedented to me. Just because you supported Mahama and you own property, it should be seized,” he lamented.

“It is because I supported Mahama, that’s they are doing that.”
