NPP vets its parliamentary aspirants in Central Region

Cape Coast Sept. 6 GNA- The New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Saturday began an exercise at Cape Coast to vet its aspiring parliamentary candidates in the Central Region, to ensure that only qualified ones are selected to contest the primaries.

The 32 candidates, who are vying for seats in areas not occupied by the party, include two women.

They include a deputy minister, four district chief executives, two presiding members, accountants, administrators, Consultants, and pastors, who will be contesting in the Awutu-Senya, Effutu, Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, Agona East, Komenda- Edina-Eguafo-Abrem, Mfantsiman East and West, Gomoa West and Twifu-Hemang Lower Denkyira constituencies.

The National Organiser of the NPP, Mr Lord Commey, said there was the need for all the aspirants “to look beyond the primaries”, and urged those who will not win to support those who would be elected.

He called for compromise in areas where as many as six, are contesting, adding that those who will compromise, and stand down for popular candidates, will be paid back four out of the five million cedis registration fee.

Present at the vetting exercise include, Mr Eddy Annan, First National Vice-Chairman, Mrs Agnes Okudzeto, Second National Vice-Chairman and Mr M. A. Ghartey Central Regional Chairman of the party.
