NPP urged to pursue pragmatic economic policies

Takoradi, Dec. 16, GNA – The African Renaissance Project (ARP), a Takoradi-based NGO has said that, the victory of the NPP in the recent general elections should inspire the party’s leadership to pursue more pragmatic economic policies that would ensure the economic well-being of the ordinary Ghanaian.

In a congratulatory message signed by Mr Kofi Domahsie, a director of ARP, noted with profound joy the free, fair and peaceful conduct of the elections that has turned the Electoral Commission into a “Shinning Star on the African continent”.

The massive endorsement of a second term for President Kufuor’s administration is a proof of the people’s confidence in the economic policies of the NPP, the message said.

It however said, these laudable economic policies should not remain in the domain of only macro-economic stabilisation but should be translated into the micro level to impact more positively on the ordinary Ghanaian. ARP, which has at its objective to promote democracy, African Technology and Conflict Resolution among others, also congratulated the opposition political parties, particularly the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for emerging once again as the most formidable minority party.

“It is our conviction that the NDC will draw greater strength from its pedigree on the Ghanaian political landscape and keep the Government on its toes to enhance good governance”

The ARP also commended the various media houses for their role in ensuring peaceful elections and suggested that, in future, political parties that obtain 15 per cent of popular votes should enjoy state sponsorship.
