Sekondi, Aug. 17, GNA – Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has asked members of the party to stay focussed and work with the spirit of solidarity and fraternity.
He reminded them that the victory of the party in the December poll could only be threatened by its own internal cohesion and the manner they conducted themselves.
Nana Akufo-Addo, was addressing the 16th National Delegates Congress of the NPP at the Sekondi College in the Western Region on Sunday.
The main highlights of the three-day meeting were the adoption of the party’s Election Manifesto and Campaign Strategy to win the December poll.
President John Agyekum Kufuor and Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama attended.
Nana Akufo-Addo made reference to the wrangling that characterised some of the party’s primaries to elect parliamentary candidates and said this should be seen as a struggle “within a family.” All should recognise that the unity of the party was more important than any individual political ambition and for that matter they should all come together to work for victory.
The NPP Presidential Candidate cautioned against the beating of war drums by some of the party’s political opponents and said what Ghanaians wanted was peace and not violence.
They want to continue down the road of peace they had travelled over the past seven years.
Nana Akufo-Addo said the nation was on the threshold of unprecedented prosperity and gave the assurance that if elected his Government would ensure prudent and transparent management of the country’s resources.
The vision, he said, was not to stop at middle income level, but to join the first world and was confident that the NPP was going to take Ghana there.
“We would create for ourselves first class public service and modernize the economy through industrialization.” They would make sure that receipts from the exploitation of the discovered oilfields benefitted the nation.
Nana Akufo-Addo also promised to deepen the local governance system, which he said, was critical to the development and promotion of democracy.
Fee-free Senior High School Education, improved infrastructure and public universities in all regions, were among the other key projects, his Government would be pursuing.
