NPP to capture 95% of Ashanti votes – Regional Chairman

Akrofuom (Ash), April 24, GNA – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is determined to capture 95 percent of total votes of the Ashanti region during the December presidential elections, Mr F.F. Anto, Ashanti regional chairman of the party has said.

Mr Anto who was speaking during the election of constituency executives at Akrofuom in the Adansi West district on Thursday, therefore charged party executives to work towards achieving that target.

“There is a heavy responsibility on NPP in the region to ensure that the party wins massively in the coming December elections”, he said.

Mr Anto said the party must improve upon the 79.8 percent votes it won in the region in the 2000 elections, hence its new target of 95 percent.

“This is not a joke as we have done a lot within the past three years for which we have to tell the people to vote for us”. The regional chairman asked party members not to allow politics divide them. “Let us see ourselves as one people after the elections, after all it is NPP that is victorious and not you as an individual”, he stressed.

Mr Moses Osei-Bonsu, a 55-year-old business executive in Accra, had 28 votes against 13 by Edward Baffour-Awuah, an assemblyman, to become the constituency chairman while Nicholas Wireko-Brobbey, a purchasing clerk, polled 36 votes to beat Peter Obeng, a pensioner to become the treasurer.

The posts of first and second vice-chairmen went to Mr S.A. Boateng and Mr Eric Y. Ennin, respectively while Maurice Jonas Woode, an assemblyman was elected unopposed as secretary.

The remaining positions of assistant secretary, organiser, women’s organiser and youth organiser went to Ankomahene Gyekye, Kwaku Duah, Elizabeth Obeng and Emmanuel Amofah respectively.
