NPP targets 30% presidential votes in Volta Region

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has promised to amass 30 percent of eligible votes to be cast in the Volta region for its presidential nominee, Nana Akufo-Addo in the December 7, polls.

According to the party’s Volta Regional Chairman, John Peter Amewu, the party is also aiming for three parliamentary seat in the region, which has continuously voted for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) since the resumption of multiparty democracy in 1993.

Speaking to Accra based Citi FM Wednesday in a telephone interview, Mr. Amewu stated that the party has a “very good” agenda to achieve its stated goal.

“…We are aiming at three seats and minimum of 30percent of presidential popular votes and that is what we call agenda ‘three-thirty’,” he said adding that it was doable and “we are working towards it.”

In 2012, the NPP secured about 13 percent of the presidential votes meaning it will require 17 percent more votes to achieve the new target.

“[The 30percent target] is a very ambitious target,” said Mr. Amewu but it could be achieved especially, as the “developmental records of the NDC in the region are terrible”.
