NPP symbol on National Honours award ?

The People’s National Convention (PNC) has criticised the embossing of the Grand Medal of National Honours Award with an elephant, the symbol of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

A statement signed by the General Secretary of the PNC, Gabriel Kwamang said such events of national interest should not be given a partisan taint, since that could lead to disunity.

It said although the NPP criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for displaying party colours at national events, the NPP was making similar mistakes.

“This would lead people to ask whether those that are given the Grand Medals with the symbol of the NPP will have to surrender them when another party takes over the reins of government after the next general election.”

The statement, therefore, called on the Government to replace the symbol of the elephant on the Grand Medal with a national motif to give the awards a national appeal.

The PNC pledged to continue to champion its cause to develop a national agenda that was different from that of a political party in order for the country to maximize its development effort and prevent political differences from retarding it.
