NPP supporters pour out into streets to celebrate victory

Accra, Dec 10, GNA- Jubilant supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) poured into the streets of Accra on Thursday night and into the wee hours of the Friday to celebrate the victory of their presidential candidate, John Agyekum Kufuor, after the Electoral Commission had declared him the winner of the December 7, 2004 presidential election.

NPP supporters at Adabraka, Nima, Teshie, Haatso, Madina and Adenta ”hit the streets” to celebrate their party’s victory that has given the government a second four-year term.

They were bedecked in NPP paraphernalia, held high the party’s symbol, the elephant and carried the campaign photographs of President John Agyekum Kufuor.

They drummed, danced, sang and shouted “one touch” to mean their party won in the first round.

Some of the supporters tooted car horns endlessly and as they drove others sat on the bonnet or hanged perilously on the doors.

Other jubilant supporters drove from various parts of Accra to the Presidents private home at the Airport Residential to congratulate him but the security detail prevented them from entering the premises.
