Supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who are still not enthused about the comments of a Former Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Maxwell Kofi Jumah in response to concerns by Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) are literally shredding him on social media.
Many are questioning the locus of Mr Jumah in the whole matter and wondering who actually gave him the authority to respond to the issue when he is neither a spokesperson of the incoming government in charge of education nor a member of its education team.
Though the Former Deputy Local Government and Rural Development Minister has rendered an unqualified apology over his utterances, many within his party feel this is enough.
According to a deep-throat source within the party that spoke to ultimatefmonline.com on condition of strict anonymity, if the utterances of Mr Jumah are allowed to persist, it is likely to put the party in bad light and therefore he has been cautioned to desist from speaking on such sensitive matters.
“We are not gagging him but we have advised him to be mindful of some of the things he says and at what time. We are an incoming government and statements like his are likely to incite the public against us. Once he has apologized it means he has learnt his lessons and will chart a new path henceforth”, the source said.
Meanwhile, acting General Secretary John Boadu describes his comments as totally unacceptable, adding that Mr Jumah does not speak for government and appealed to the teachers not to take his comments serious.
“We are sorry about that. I don’t think the party will tolerate that at all. Kofi Jumah does not speak for government. We plead with Ghanaians and teachers, whatever promises we made will be fulfilled,” John Boadu said on an Accra-based radio station.
