NPP supporters celebrate victory in Akim Oda

Akim Oda, Dec. 10, GNA – Jubilant supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) last night fell into the streets of Akim Oda to celebrate the party’s victory in last Tuesday’s elections immediately after the results were announced.

Shortly after the party’s Presidential candidate, Mr John Agyekum Kufuor was declared winner in the polls by the Electoral Commissioner (EC), the supporters jammed the streets amidst drumming and dancing. Meanwhile, a cross section of people at Oda who were interviewed, expressed joy about the peaceful manner the elections were held but appealed that next time around, the result should not be unduly delayed.

They were happy that democracy was gradually taking roots in the country as could be seen in the high turn out of voters who exercised their franchise.

On their expectations, they appealed to the in-coming government to provide more development projects such as construction of roads, provision of potable water, especially in the rural communities, to make life more meaningful to the people.

The responders also appealed to the government to take the necessary steps to provide employment for the youth and to address the problems of high school fees in the second-cycle institutions, as well as high utility bills.
