NPP supporters call on leadership to challenge election results

Scores of supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have thronged the party’s headquarters, singing, chanting party slogans and calling on the leadership to challenge the results declared by Dr Kwadwo Afari Djan, Chairman of the Electoral Commission.

Clad in party T-shirts and paraphernalia, some wept over the National Democratic Congress (NDC) victory, saying their candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, had been robbed by the NDC with the connivance of some Electoral Commission (EC) officials.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, some supporters claimed that the declaration made by the chairman of the EC was a ‘stolen verdict’ and that he should not have been allowed to declare the results since their candidate had not signed it.

They claimed that there was evidence that Ghanaians had voted widely for the NPP and that the results had been manipulated to favour the President elect, John Dramani Mahama.

Mr Fred Oware, First Vice Chairman of the Party, addressed the supporters and urged them to calm down and wait for Nana Addo, who was on his way to the party headquarters, to address them.
