NPP supporters are desperate for power – Sir John

The immediate past general secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, has waded into the wrangling that has hit the opposition party, blaming the situation on the “desperate search” for power among its supporters.

In his first interview since the controversy broke, Sir John – as he is commonly called – said the party feels the urgent need to win power to save Ghanaians from the “bad governance” of the Mahama-led administration.

The NPP has been in the news lately over administrative changes at its communications directorate being championed by the General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, and Chairman Paul Afoko. Some believe the move is aimed at destabilising the support base of a two-time presidential candidate, Akufo-Addo, within the party.

According to Sir John, the tension will ease if the new executives learn to accommodate views from all members.

“I am yet to get the full details of what happened. I will call Kwabena for briefing; he is my younger brother, and I think when they listen to the members these things will ease down.

“But I believe these things are happening because our party people need power, and I believe the executives want power too. We must win power to save Ghanaians from this crisis,” Owusu Afriyie stated on Accra-based Okay FM.
