NPP selects parliamentary candidate for Asante-Akim North

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has elected Mr. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, a Communication Consultant, as it parliamentary candidate for the Asante-Akim North Constituency amidst some controversy.

His only challenger, Mr. Samuel Anyan Kusi, who holds a dual citizenship, was disqualified and that did not go down well with him and his supporters as he vowed to contest the seat as an independent candidate.

The parliamentary primary in the area was originally fixed for Sunday, October 14, but had to be pushed back to Wednesday, October 17, to allow Mr. Kusi time to renounce his American citizenship.

Mr. Fredrick Fredua Anto, the NPP Regional Chairman, told the delegates that the process towards the renunciation of Mr. Anyan’s American citizenship were a bit complex and the party could not afford to take any chances hence his disqualification.

The delegates at this stage elected Mr. Agyemang by popular acclamation.
