The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been experiencing a lot of heat lately, especially after the final ruling of the Supreme Court on the election petition.
After the court ruled in favour of President John Dramani Mahama, a section of the party started endorsing Nana Akufo-Addo as their 2016 presidential candidate; insisting that they will not accept anybody else.
Others stood against that assertion especially when Nana Akufo-Addo had already stated his intention to take a break from active politics and reflect on what next to do.
As if that was not enough, other groups within the party also emerged with their preferred candidates to contest as the flagbearer.
Now, there are suggestions to elect a flagbearer for the party before any other elections; contrary to the party’s time table which puts constituency elections first.
Contributing to a panel discussions on ‘Kokrokoo’, Wednesday, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Director in the Central Region, Bernard Allotey Jacobs prefers the status quo to remain.
“The NPP are very good in opposition, and so I will not be bothered much about what they are doing,” he opined sarcastically.
Speaking to the issue on the same platform, Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC, Joseph Kwabena Ade Coker, believes the NPP could have spared themselves such controversies.
According to him, had they (NPP) accepted the 2012 elections without going to court, the issues they are currently faced with would have been confronted and curbed ‘long ago’.
“NPP scuffles was inevitable…it could have been avoided if they had accepted the 2012 elections. What would have happened had Akufo Addo conceded defeat is what is happening now…,” he asserted.
