NPP requested to apply code of ethics on deviant members

Sunyani (B/A) June 3, GNA – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been urged to apply its code of ethics on members and supporters who might create confusion, violence and acrimony during electioneering campaigns to the 2004 General Election.

Dr Kofi Barimah, a Senior Lecturer at the Catholic University of Ghana, Fiapre, near Sunyani who made the call, said this would assist in ensuring free, fair and peaceful elections.

Dr Barimah, who had filed nomination papers to contest the primaries of the NPP in the Sunyani East constituency, was speaking in an interview with Ghana News Agency on Wednesday.

He said if deviant supporters and members of the NPP were sanctioned, that would discourage members of other political parties from misbehaving.

Dr Barimah advised the NPP supporters to exercise restraint in the face of provocation from political opponents.

He said the NPP was a strong family under the great elephant and would definitely retain power in the elections and appealed to party members to work as a team to ensure absolute victory.

Dr Barimah said he acquired a lot of experience and skills from Canada, which he would apply in community development if voted into parliament.

He commended the NPP government for its developmental achievements within the three years in office.

Dr Barimah urged NPP supporters to unite and intensify their campaign in the Brong-Ahafo Region to enable the party capture the parliamentary seats won by the opposition parties in the 2000 General Election.

He called on journalists to be objective, tolerant and circumspect in their reportage adding ” The media can make or unmake the country”.
