One of the seven flagbearer aspirants of the main opposition New Patriotic Party says his mere participation in the race scares his detractors and opponents.
Refuting rumours that he has pulled out of the 7-man race, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku said: “People are afraid, that is why they are orchestrating this”.
“I am in this race and I am winning it”, he confidently said.
The former Minister of Trade and Industry is in the race with two-time flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo, colleague former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyeremanten, former Attorney General Joe Ghartey, former Information Minister Stephen Asamoah Boateng, and MPs Francis Addai-Nimoh and Kwame Osei Ameyaw.
Per the party’s amended Constitution, a special delegates’ conference will be organised on August 31, to whittle down the number of aspirants to five.
An Electoral College of 115,000 Delegates will subsequently elect one of the last five standing in a separate conference on October 18.
Apraku, whose campaign has been on the quiet was rumoured to have withdrawn from the race over alleged unfair treatment against him by some party stalwarts.
He, however, told private FM station, Citi, that the claims are false.
