NPP plans to buy Volta votes with GHC1 – Koku Anyidoho

Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho has disclosed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has designed a scheme to buy votes in the Volta Region.

Koku Anyidoho reveals, the “One Ghana Cedi, One Vote Project” is led by one Pastor Johnson Avuletey and some executives of the opposition party to lure Voltarians with cash sum of Ghc1 to vote for the NPP in the upcoming December polls.

The NDC Deputy General Secretary was speaking on Abusua Nkomo hosted by Kwame Adinkrah.

According to him, the NPP is scared it may lose the 2016 elections and therefore has resorted to this measure as the last resort to woo voters in the stronghold of the NDC when they had earlier claimed they were making giant strides.

“They are planning to distribute new one Ghana cedi notes to some rural communities in the Volta region just to induce voters, but I can tell you that it will not work”, he stated.

Quoting portions of the 20-page document to back his claim he said “What was done exactly was that , on election day a member went to his village and doled out one Ghana cedi each to about 50 vulnerable street drunkards and ‘busemen’ as inducement for them to cast their vote for NPP. Indeed the result of the polling station at the end of the day attested to this rather crude strategy”

Anyidoho further alleges, it is also proposed in the said document a brand new GHC1 denomination will be used to induce voters on election day at remote villages in the Volta region appealing to residents to be mindful of the NPP’s conduct.

“They don’t mean well for the people of the Volta region they have consistently described as foreigners. How will they adopt this crude strategy if they are doing well in the Volta region as they have made it appear like’, he asked.
