NPP opens nomination for prez aspirants

Accra, March 31, GNA – The National Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Wednesday said it had opened nominations for presidential aspirants from Wednesday, March 31 to Friday, May 7. A statement issued in Accra by Mr Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie, General Secretary of the NPP, said vetting of aspirants would close on Wednesday, June 2.

It said the decision taken at its first National Council meeting in Accra on Wednesday, March 31, was in agreement with Article 12 A (1) and (2) of the party’s Constitution.

The statement requested members who qualify under the Article 12 (A) (4) of its constitution and wished to be the party’s presidential candidate to apply for the forms at its headquarters.

It said: “There shall be a special electoral college if there are more than five aspirants and this is scheduled for Saturday, July 3.” “If there should be a run-off, it shall be held on Saturday, August 28.”

The statement said: “If however, there are no hitches regarding the process, then the special congress shall be held on Saturday, July 3. “
