The attacks visited on the Tamale office of the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) in the Northern regional capital by some miscreants purported to be members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was not sanctioned by any executive of the governing party, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, has said.
On Monday 6 February, a group of youth calling themselves the ‘Kandahar Boys’ stormed the SADA office, ransacked the place, and attempted taking over the office.
During the attacks, a leader of the group was heard saying: “They did that to us in 2009…we have even [done well] by allowing them to work and take salaries for two months. We don’t care about the police. We inhale tear gas and pepper spray.”
Speaking in relation to this matter in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Tuesday 7 February, ASP Tetteh said: “Calm has been restored to SADA. A team of police officers were deployed to the area to ensure law and order. The boys carried this action out without the support of the regional executives of the NPP. The party is not in support of their action.”
ASP Tetteh added: “If you want to take over this property, you should use the right procedure to do so.”
