NPP must apologise for calling Mahama a thief

A member of the communication’s team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dela Edem has asked the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to apologise to President John Dramani Mahama for labeling him ‘a thief’.

According to him, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, vice presidential candidate of the NPP, answering questions in the witness box at the Supreme Court on Wednesday attested to the fact that President Mahama did not rig the elections contrary to a previous stance of the NPP.

“After the election, the NPP accused the Electoral Commission and President Mahama of rigging the election to the extent of giving him the name “stealers”; but during cross-examination, Dr Bawumia said he didn’t (say so),” he said.

A portion of Tony Lithur’s cross examination of Dr Bawumia reads: “Counsel: so you are not accusing the first respondent (President Mahama) of having done anything wrong, are you?

Witness: No, the first respondent just happens to be the beneficiary of these violations, malpractices and irregularities.

Counsel: you are suggesting he resoundingly won the election?

Witness: with violations, malpractices and irregularities”

“From what Dr Bawumia said, the president has nothing to do with their initial accusation. The NPP needs to do three things: apologise to the president for denigrating him by calling him a thief, apologise to Ghanaians as well as the NDC,” Dela Edem told Kwami Sefa-Kayi during discussions on Peace FM’s morning show Kokrokoo.
