NPP MPs contributed Ghc150,000 each toward congress

The NPP is an incredible party with incredible activists. At the time they were at their loudest screaming from roof-tops that the economy was sinking under President Mahama, each NPP MP was able to raise a whopping ¢1.5 billion (Ghc150,000) as contribution towards organizing their August 31, 2014 congress at Tamale.

This means that the 122 MPs of the party contributed a total number of ¢183 billion towards the congress.

This shocking revelation was made yesterday on Muntie FM’s flagship programme, ‘Pampaso’ by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, a.k.a. Chairman Wontumi.

The NPP Chair made the revelation after the host of the programme, Mugabe Maase, asked him if it was true that Nana Akufo-Addo gave him ¢2.5 billion (Ghc250,000) to be given to the delegates before they go out to vote. Replying in the affirmative, Chairman Wontumi posited that it was good for members of a party to contribute to the hosting of programmes such as the congress.

In this regard, he revealed that he contributed Ghc150,000 (¢1.5billion) to the Tamale congress, Kennedy Ohene contributed same which the NPP Eastern Regional Chairman contributed Ghc100,000 (¢1billion). Wontumi then dropped the bombshell – each of the party’s 122 MPs contributed ¢1.5billion towards the Tamale congress.

The revelation obviously stunned the host of the programme and some of his panelists. The PPPs Alister Nelson who was A panelist on the afternoon’s programme, expressed shock that the NPP MPs could each mobilize a whopping ¢1.5billion towards the Tamale congress.

Expressing dismay at the revelation, he said politics in Ghana has become so monetized that political power is now given to those who have money and not those who have the ability to rule.

On Thursday, it was revealed that Nana Akufo-Addo, the eventual winner of the election donated ¢6billion to party to be used to organize the delegates who will be voting.
