NPP MP Exposes Nana Addo on Free SHS

Hon. Professor Samuel Amoako, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North and member of Nana Akufo-Addo Campaign team in the Eastern Region, has punctured Nana Addo’s Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, saying that it will benefit only new comers and not students already in the system.

“You guys do not understand the whole thing. Nana is not saying all students in senior high school will get free education. He is going to start the programme from September 2013. Those who enter SHS from that year will benefit from it and not those already in the system. He is starting his own programme in September 2013,” Hon Prof. Amoako revealed in an exclusive interview with the Enquirer last Friday.

Again, he said they will offer free SHS school uniforms to admitted students and abolish teacher motivation fees being charged by various schools in the country since they will be taken good care of under Nana Addo presidency.

He averred that, schools will be allowed to charge additional fees, like PTA levy and other relevant levies, with approval from the Ghana Education Service (GES) and not what is going on now.

He also said Nana Akufo-Addo made a mistake in stating that the programme would cost GH¢78 million a year, explaining that “that amount is for the start of the programme which will cover one term and not a year.”

“Let me tell you, GH¢78 million is for the start of the programme for a term and not a year,” he emphasized.

According to him, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is going to be increased because the economy would be modernized.

“The GDP in 2013 is going to be higher in 2014. You don’t know how to create jobs and I will not tell you,” he stated.

Hon. Amoako further said they will re-define basic education to include KG and stressed the need for urgent implementation of the free SHS.
