Ho, July 23, GNA – Indications are that it might be difficult if not unlikely for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to put up a parliamentary candidate for the Ho-Central Constituency in the December general elections.
“You might have been aware of developments in Ho-Central over the past one-year over leadership. I wish to inform you that the matter is far from resolved”, Mr Kenwuud Nuworsu, Volta Regional Chairman of the NPP, told a press conference on the state of the party in the region and its preparedness for the forthcoming elections.
Asked if the party could resolve the impasse on time to pave the way for the choosing a parliamentary candidate, Mr Nuworsu said it was not binding on the party to field candidates for all constituencies. He said the party had experienced such challenges in the constituency in the past but was able to resolve them.
Mr Nuworsu alleged that elections conducted by the Electoral Commission on the orders of a Ho-High Court to elect Executives for the constituency were fraught with irregularities that violated the Court ruling and the party’s constitution.
He reiterated that the party’s Constitution would not be compromised to appease errant members.
“It is true that politics is about numbers but disciplined numbers and not negative numbers that would expose us to public ridicule and detract from our existing numbers.”
Mr Nuworsu said the party had so far elected 19 Parliamentary candidates in the region while primaries would be held in the Krachi-West Constituency on Tuesday July 27 and Akan Constituency later in the year.
