The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has revealed that party leadership is taking decisive behind-the-scenes actions to address rising tensions among presidential aspirants ahead of the January 2026 primaries.
In an interview with Channel One TV on Wednesday, June 18, Mr. Kodua acknowledged concerns over public spats and intra-party friction but assured the public that the party is actively working to maintain unity and discipline.
“That’s why we continue to caution personalities in the party,” he said. “There are so many behind-the-scenes discussions and meetings and activities that go on. And you may not know the number of times that we have engaged certain personalities…how we’re able to prevent or even stop people from making certain comments and also how we’re able to calm tempers in certain quarters.”
Addressing criticism that the leadership had been too lenient, Mr. Kodua clarified that the absence of public reprimands does not equate to inaction. He emphasized that the NPP’s internal conflict-resolution mechanisms are in full force, aimed at fostering unity without unnecessary public spectacle.
“The fact that I have not come out publicly to rebuke Mr. A or B doesn’t mean the party has not taken certain actions,” he stated, underscoring the leadership’s deliberate, measured approach.
The NPP’s January 31, 2026, flagbearer contest promises to be highly competitive, with several prominent figures vying for the party’s top ticket. As tensions grow, Mr. Kodua’s assurances highlight the party’s commitment to ensuring a fair and harmonious process, critical to the NPP’s unity ahead of the 2028 general elections.
