NPP leaders must be down to earth – Effah Darteh

As yesterday marked the Centenary celebration of Dr. K.A Busia, a member of the New Patriotic Party has cautioned the leaders of the party to remain down to earth and emulate the lifestyle of their departed hero.

In 1959, Dr. Busia became a Professor of Sociology and Culture of Africa at the University of Leiden. He was appointed as the Chairman of the National Advisory Committee of the NLC in 1966, after Nkrumah’s government was overthrown by the military. He was also Leader of Ghana Congress Party which later merged with the other opposition parties to form the United Party (UP).

The New Patriotic Party was founded on the ideals of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition and has used that mantle in the fourth republic.

But Captain retired Nkrabea Effah Dartey believes there is more to do in order to upgrade the actions of their current leaders.

He noted that although Dr. K.A Busia was a professor in sociology, he made it a norm to keep a low profile in everything he did. From the way he addressed a function and through his interaction with the people, he used simple English sentences, Captain Effah Dartey claimed.

In a direct caution to the current leaders of the NPP, the former deputy minister of Local Government and Rural Development under the Kufuor administration warned that it is about time they copied and exhibited traits of the late Dr. Busia.

He advised that it was about time they shun speaking English in a flamboyant and flowery manner.
