The governing National Democratic Congress’ General Secretary has accused the petitioners challenging the 2012 election results of changing their claims every day.
Giving his evidence-in-chief at the Supreme Court on Thursday May 23, 2013, Johnson Asiedu Nketia said: “My Lords when we came here first, I remember they claimed that some 28 polling stations didn’t exist [but] later on, they changed that number to 22; then later on, they tried to change it to 23 and so on”.
As far as the number of polling stations whose results are being challenged is concerned, Mr. Asiedu Nketia said: “…They began by claiming 4000 plus, then it went to 11,900 plus then it came back to 11, 840 and now I think the latest figure is 11, 138 or something,” adding that: “I don’t know whether they will change it before the verdict”.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia who is testifying on behalf of the first and third respondents in the petition further went on to say that the petitioners have, in similar fashion, not been consistent with the categorization and number of malpractices they are alleging against the respondents.
“Today they will say we have 26 categories, the following day it comes to 24 and that one also keeps changing,” he added.
“My Lord on the floor of this court room, they declared that they haven’t alleged any fraud or any problem involving the first and third respondents, meanwhile the case started with allegations of fraud against the first and third respondents, so the case keeps on changing,” Mr. Asiedu Nketia insisted.
The court adjourned the case to Tuesday May 28, 2013 for the Lead Counsel of the NDC, Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata to continue leading Mr. Asiedu Nketia in evidence.
