NPP is a fascist government -Aidoo

The former deputy minister of defence, Dr. Tony Aidoo, has said the NPP is a fascist government, which has embarked on actions to intimidate and harass known political opponents. He added that nepotism has crept back into the body politics of the country, a phenomenon that never existed under the (P)NDC.

Dr. Aidoo revealed that all appointments made by the President, Mr. J. A. Kufuor, since he assumed office have been to his relatives.

He was speaking at the public lecture on Monday to mark to mark the 22nd anniversary of the June 4th uprising which led toe the overthrow of the Supreme Military Council then led by General Fred Akuffo.

The occasion brought together prominent members of the opposition National Democractic Congress (NDC) party. Among them were the former Vice-President, Professor Atta Mills, who was the Presidential Candidates of the NDC during the last elections, his Vice Mr. Martin Amidu, Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, former Presidential Adviser on Governmental Affairs, Mrs. Ama Benyiwa Doe, MP for Gomoa West, Alhaji Issifu Ali, National Chairman of the NDC, Dr. Kwabena Adjei, former Minister of Agriculture and MP for the Biakoye Constituency, and Mr. Enoch Teye Mensah, MP for Ningo Prampram and former Minister for Youth and Sports.

Dr. Farrouk Braimah, former Minister for Environment, Mr. Lee Ocran, former Deputy Minister for Environment and Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, first lady and President of the 31st December Women’s Movement and Alhaji Ramadan, National Treasurer of People’s National Convention (PNC) were also present.

Touching on the state of the economy, Dr. Tony Aidoo said it is hypocritical for the NPP government to tell Ghanaians that the nation is poor when at the same time the same government is using the taxpayer’s money on projects, which are not relevant to the growth of the economy.

He cited the 40 million cedis spent on the President’s private residence and the over ?1 billion being spent for the renovation of the Castle as such projects that exposed the NPP as insensitive to the people of Ghana.

Mr. Aidoo referred to the National Security Adviser (General Hamidu) as a failed security adviser who is implementing a personal vendetta against leading members of the NDC.

He said the NPP has failed to deliver on its campaign promises and it is finding excuses for its failures.

Mr. Albin Bagbin, Minority Leader in Parliament said the international community has lost faith in the NPP government and has started expressing concern over the NPP’s performance.

He dared Mr. Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, Minister for Presidential Affairs to go to court if he can, because he is prepared to face him.
