NPP holds seminar for foot soldiers.

Bolgatanga, Feb. 24, GNA- The General Secretary of The New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Dan Botwe, on Monday warned that the national executive would not countenance any attempt by a party member to intimidate new members who have been inspired by the spirit of good governance to join the party.

” Instead, open your arms wide and receive the people, reach out and win more souls into the party”

Mr. Botwe said this in Bolgatanga at the opening of a two-day strategic planning and training-of-trainers seminar for the party’s Polling Station Executives in the Upper East Region. The training is expected to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the party in the region, make amends where the need arises and plan campaign strategies towards the forthcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

The General Secretary conceded that the party did not do well in the three northern regions in the last election and said it is not satisfied with this performance adding that the situation is unacceptable in the party’s new strategic reforms.

Politics Seminar NPP 2 Bolgatanga Mr. Botwe attributed the situation to all forms of intimidations in the year 2000 election and said the party would not do anything negative to mar the forthcoming polls. He said the important thing was for the party to win on a massive scale through the dissemination of government policies and telling the people the truth. He expressed the party’s determination to wrestle most of the seats in the three northern regions, saying “We are not just parroting that we would win, we would not rest on our oars this time. We would take majority of the seats in these areas.” He said the training would also make the campaigns cost-effective, because the polling station executives who are the foot soldiers live and work in those communities and the party would not make additional expense to transport people to campaign in the various communities. Mr. Botwe urged the participants not to be complacent, but work extra hard to ensure that the party wins convincingly. 24 Feb 04
