Kumasi, Aug 7, GNA – The historic presidential primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in all 10 constituencies in Kumasi had been incident-free, peaceful and orderly.
At the Centre of National Culture where 530 delegates in the Bantama Constituency gathered, Madam Cecelia Abena Dapaah, the Member Parliament (MP) was the first to cast her ballot.
They are deciding who among the party’s five presidential aspirants gets the nod to lead the NPP in the struggle to win political power in Election 2012.
Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, Mr John Alan Kojo Kyerematen, Mr Isaac Osei, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng and Reverend John Kwame Kodua, are contesting the primaries.
At Kwadaso Constituency, majority of the 329 delegates had voted when the GNA got to the Bethel Methodist Church polling centre.
The Constituency Chairman, Mr Yaw Bonna Boadi, expressed satisfaction with the responsible manner the delegates had carried themselves.
In the Old-Tafo Constituency, 242 out of the 277 delegates had exercised their franchise two hours into the voting, which started at 0800 hours.
So peaceful and relax was the atmosphere that, the security personnel on duty, virtually had no job doing.
The situation was no different in the Suame Constituency where, the Minority leader, Mr. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, joined the early voters at the Old Suame Methodist Church polling centre.
As at 1100 hours, 325 delegates out of the total of 359 had cast their ballot.
The Oforikrom and Asokwa Constituencies, which were seen as flashpoints did not register any incident.
There was heavy security presence as the delegates calmly stood in queues and patiently waited for their turn to cast their ballot.
When GNA visited the Bundys Gardens at Asokore Mampong, polling centre for delegates in the Asawase Constituency, 224 delegates out of a total of 565 had cast their ballot as at 1145 hours.
In the Subin Constituency where 517 delegates are voting, 90 per cent had cast their ballot, two hours after the exercise began.
