NPP has no monopoly over violence in A/R – NDC

The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region has served a strong warning to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) that it has no monopoly over violence in the region and therefore should not extend its violent conduct to them.

Deputy Regional Secretary of the NDC Kwame Zu at a press conference on Sunday disclosed that the party’s refusal to reply the NPP in equal measure was not a manifestation its members are weak and cowards.

‘We have been quite because as a ruling party, we are interested in maintaining law and order. Our decision to live at peace does not mean we are weak. Our ultimate responsibility as a ruling party is to maintain law and order”, he said.

But according to him, this has been taken for cowardice for which the NPP is allegedly visiting acts of intimidation and violence on its members in order to smoothen its way to register minors in the ongoing limited registration exercise.

It has therefore indicated that it will take steps to protect its members at the various polling stations henceforth cautioning some police who are working for the NPP and intimidating NDC members to be mindful of their conduct.

“The violence that has engulfed the NPP has been extended to our offices. The events are too coherent to be mere suspicion”, he stated
