NPP has no credible leadership – Tarzan

Suspended member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby aka Tarzan, has said the party’s decision to suspend him is because it lacks “credible leadership”.

Dr Wereko-Brobby was reacting to Nana Akomea’s assurances that the party will apologise to him for the publication of his suspension in a newspaper before being officially notified by the party’s National Executive Council (NEC).

The New Statesman published on Tuesday, July 9 that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party last Friday slapped a two-year ban on Charles Wereko-Brobby for bringing the party’s name into disrepute.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Tuesday, Nana Akomea, Communications Director of the NPP, said it was unfortunate that the decision on Tarzan’s suspension was leaked to the newspaper.

“I believe the party owes [Dr Wereko-Brobby] some apology by having the decision of the National Executive Council leaked before the decision has gone to [him]”, Nana Akomea said.

But Tarzan was not impressed by Nana Akomea’s “perfunctionary” comments.

The former Volta River Authority (VRA) boss said the publication of his suspension was deliberate and it is as a result of a total lack of respect and decorum by the NEC.

He said: “when we have put a credible leadership in the party, these matters will take care of themselves”.

He added that if the party gets a credible leadership the “folly” in the decision by the NEC to suspend him from the party would be made bare.

Tarzan said he was not perturbed by the decision, and it will not change his views on any matter he speaks about.

Instead the suspension, according to him, will make it easier for him to pronounce his views on matters such as “the crass and irresponsible behavior of the General Secretary of the party [Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie] who is almost certainly ruining the party’s chances by the insults of the judiciary who are hearing the [2012 election petition]”.

But Nana Akomea thinks Tarzan should be gracious to the party for how it has handled the matter.

Dr Wereko-Brobby, however, said with the current behavior of the NPP, he would not want to spend too much time discussing a trivial matter as his suspension when more important national issues need consideration.
