“Does the president have a mind of his own?…Does he need to consult the NEC or the NDC before appointing or sacking someone?…Does it mean he did not do due diligence in sacking the DCE?…These are the questions that need to be answered,” says Kwamena Duncan, Central Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Kwamena Duncan’s litany of questions was in relation to a statement issued by the National Executive Council (NEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) asking President John Dramani Mahama to reinstate the ‘tweaa’ DCE, Gabriel Barima of the Ahafo Ano South District.
The statement, which was signed by the Party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, also known as General Mosquito, described the reason for the dismissal of the DCE as unfair and may have been based on lack of accurate information.
It further indicated that per the NDC’s NEC investigations, the sacked DCE, acted out of frustration after some staff of the Mankranso hospital started ‘heckling’ him using unprintable words including the word ‘tweaa’.
The party also claims that the Joy FM interview that triggered the dismissal of the Ahafo Ano South DCE was secretly done.
Sharing his opinion on the matter on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’ programme on Wednesday, Kwamena Duncan wondered what could have led to a president being dictated to by his party members even to the point of him (President) being asked to reverse a decision he has already thought through carefully.
“…if the president gives regard to what the General Secretary is saying and reinstates the DCE, it means every decision he (president) makes regarding his appointments and dismissal of appointees, the party can have a say and even question him…does it also mean that the president did not do due diligence and so the party is now questioning his decision?” Kwamena Duncan sought to know.
