?NPP Gov?t Causing Financial Loss?

A former Minister for Roads and Transport in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, Hon. Edward Salia has reacted to comments on the use of the presidential jet by the Kufuor administration.

In an interview with newsmen, Hon. Salia said the refusal of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to use the aircraft based on arguments that it has a low capacity, is incorrect.

Hon. Salia said it was important for government to match its current resources with its expenditure to make sure that the best decisions are made for the country?s economic growth. He added that the Kufuor administration was causing greater financial loss to the state, by not using the presidential jet.

He accused the NPP government of ?playing politics? with the issue of the presidential jet to the disadvantage of the ordinary Ghanaian. He called on Parliament to revisit the debate on the presidential jet to come up with the most viable decision on providing safe travelling procedures for the President.

He denied that presidential delegations cannot fit into the current presidential jet, saying the delegations can be composed in such a way that it can carry all persons in the entourage of the President.
