Jambusi (U/W), Jan. 9 GNA – Mr Daniel Dari Kuusono, Wa West District Chief Executive, on Sunday denied rumours making the rounds in some parts of the newly created District that the Government was using the premium of the National Health Insurance Scheme Premiums to settle it indebtedness. He said it was a strategy employed by the opponents of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government to discredit it and to discourage the people from patronising the Scheme.
Mr Kuusono made this denial when he was answering questions on the National Health Insurance Scheme at a forum organised at Jambusi, a fishing community, as part of his familiarisation tour of the District. “My brothers and sisters, what I want all of you here to know is sickness has no respect for political parties and I want to appeal to all those who are politicising the Scheme to put a stop to it for all of us to benefit from the scheme.” He wondered why people were still peddling such misleading messages round when a lot of the people had started benefiting from the Scheme throughout the country.
The DCE appealed to those who had not yet registered with the Scheme to do so to relieve them of their annual financial burdens. “I am praying that you benefit from the Scheme so that next time round when the same people come round to deceive you, you will have the opportunity to hoot at them to put them to shame,” he said. He advised the people against the removal of school children for marriages in the area adding that, the Assembly would soon pass bye-laws that would empower them to arrest those who neglected their children and men who eloped with school children for marriage. Mr Kuusono appealed to them to take advantage of the capitation grant to send all their children to school for them to become self-reliant in the future.
The people through their leadership appealed for the construction of a junior secondary school block for the community. They also appealed for the provision of teachers’ quarters since most teachers lived in Wa, about 25 kilometres away, and commuted daily to the school. The people also appealed for the construction of feeder roads to enable them to transport their farm produce to marketing centres. Dancing troupes from Jambusi, Gmabasi and Buka all in the District, performed at the forum.
