NPP General Secretary Condemns “Disgraceful” Arrest of Adenta Kumi

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has strongly criticized the early morning arrest of Alfred Ababio Kumi, also known as Adenta Kumi, describing the incident as a “disgrace” to the rule of law and a “shame” to the nation.

According to Mr. Kodua, he received a distress call from Mr. Kumi early Friday morning, during which Kumi reported that approximately 20 armed men had surrounded his residence in Adenta, banging on the gate and demanding that he come outside. Kumi, speaking from inside the house, was reportedly unable to identify the men or their affiliation at the time.

“On my way to his residence, I received another call—this time from his wife—saying he had been taken away and that they told her he was being sent to an office,” Mr. Kodua said.

Upon arriving at the residence, Kodua said Kumi had already been taken from the premises. He described the scene as “shocking,” noting that the front door of the house had been broken down and a woman in the home had allegedly been assaulted with the butt of a rifle during the operation.

“It’s appalling that officers, whoever they may be, would act in this manner. What crime has Adenta Kumi committed?” Kodua questioned.

Mr. Kodua claimed that Mr. Kumi had recently submitted a petition to the President regarding alleged wrongdoing and had not received a response prior to the arrest. He suggested the incident may have been an attempt at intimidation, criticizing the manner in which the arrest was conducted.

“If someone has filed a petition, the right course of action is to invite them—not to storm their home without a warrant,” he said.

The whereabouts of Mr. Kumi remain unknown as of the time of reporting. However, Mr. Kodua confirmed that the vehicle used in the arrest operation was identified with the registration number WE 323-11. Photographs of some individuals involved were also reportedly taken.

“We are now on our way to the National Security office to confirm whether he is being held there,” Kodua stated.

The NPP has called for clarity and adherence to legal procedures in all enforcement actions and is demanding immediate answers from the authorities regarding the incident.
