NPP founding member appeals for primaries to be conducted in Gomoa West

Gomoa Dawurampong (C/R), April 29, GNA – Mr. Anthony Yaw Coleman, a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Gomoa West on Monday appealed to the leadership of the party in the Central Region to allow primaries to be conducted to elect a parliamentary candidate for the constituency.

Speaking to newsmen at his residence at Dawurampong, Mr. Coleman said reports of attempts by some national and regional executives to elect a candidate for the constituency through popular acclamation would not be in the interest of the party.

He reminded the party executives that the constituency was a stronghold of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and that NPP captured the seat in 2004 with difficulty.

He said: “We need to present a marketable candidate in the up coming elections to enable us to retain power, and it is only through the primaries that we can get such a candidate”.

Mr. Coleman, who was the former constituency secretary of the party appealed to the executives to stop taking sides and create a level playing field for the two aspiring candidates and allow the electoral college to decide which of the two were marketable during the primaries.
